Is Jerzy Janowicz the Real Thing?

After unheralded 21-year-old Jerzy Janowicz upset Andy Murray today in the Paris Open, it's time to ask JerzyFerrerParis12 how good is this guy?

Update: Janowicz's fairy tale story came to an end, for now, when he lost in the final of the Paris Open to David Ferrer, who won his first Masters 1000 title.

Along the way, Janowicz  beat five Top 20 players to reach the final: Andy Murray, ranked 3,  #6 Tomas Berdych,  #9 Janko Tipsarevic, #18 Giles Simon, and #19 Philipp Kohlschreiber -- all after coming through the qualifiers. Winning eight matches in row was too much to ask, though, as he ran out of gas. Photo thumbnail ATP.com

At 6 ft 8 in, Janowicz has the howitzer serve you expect of a guy his height. But he also has variety, catching Murray back on his heels serveral times by hitting deft drop shots, and he moves better than any of the gaints, except the shorter Juan Martin Del Potro, and Sam Querry.

Janowicz has climbed from 221 to 69 on the ATP ladder and will go higher next week depending on how far he goes in Paris. The son of two, professional volleyball players, Janowicz says he was growing up too heavy for his parents' sport so, seeing his dad play tennis, decided to give it a try.

He quietly made it to the third-round of both the French Open and Wimbledon, after fighting his way through the qualifiers at each. Here's a quick clip from his match with Murray, via ESPN3.com to show off an 233 kpm ( 145 MPH ) ace and well as a drop shot winner; neither easy to pull off against the Wimbledon gold medalist.

{Since his name is difficult for some of us to pronounce and we're likely to hear it managled by TV announcers for years, click the embed to hear how Jerzy says it himself.}

How good do you think Janowicz is?

He's certainly a lunatic! You see his meltdown? http://youtu.be/7hfTDuISM4U

Always question a player when they do stuff like that, wastes too much energy.
