A Skeptic's Guide to What "Everyone Knows" About Tennis

Remember when experts such as John Newcomb said that Bjorn Borg's forehand would cut his career short by ruining his shoulder? Now, everyone copies Borg's open-stance.

I'm not expert, merely a week-end hacker, but I like to think I have good powers of observation and a healthy sense of skepticism. 

So, I put together this Skeptic's Guide to What "Everyone Knows" About Tennis, to raise some questions, make people think, as an excuse to repurpose some of my photos and video,  and in some cases, just poke some good-natured fun at the experts.

Handicapping the Australian Open 2012, Plus Some Fearless Tennis Prognostications

A bit against my will, I'm going to stick my neck out and make some fearful fearless prognostications for the Australian Open that started this week -- and for the rest of the year in tennis.

I'm reluctant because the picture is more muddled than in many years. But here we go.

Great Line-up Of Young Tennis Stars Coming to SAP12

Next Month's SAP Open tennis tournament in San Jose, CA will have the best line-up of up-and-coming tennis players I've seen in one place in some time. Worth checking out. I'll be in the front row. Among them (cont. below photo):

Update: Bernard Tomic withdraws. SAP says because of leg injury, ATP says Tomic used his one "personal exemption", rumored because of speeding tickets. Seems the 19-year-old was driving a high-performance car through an exemption to Australian laws, but picked up a bunch of tickets. Court is not amused.
