Nexus One Phone Launched by Google and HTC

The order page for the long-rumored "Google phone" is up following this morning's press conference on Google's Mountain View campus. Turns out the Nexus One is another HTC phone, using the Google Android 2.1 OS, running on T-Mobile (or AT&T without 3G).

GoogleNexusPhone  After much press hype about this being a ground-breaking phone that would challenge the Apple iPhone, it is actually another rev of the Moto Droid, less the keyboard, so it is even skinnier, but with many of the same limitations -- such as horrible media integration.

As with the Moto Droid, the Nexus One will be an excellent choice for internet-email centric users that value the tight integration with Google's email, contacts and map.

For corporate users, neither the Nexus nor Droid yet rivals the various Blackberry RIMs' integration with Exchange and security.

For media-centric users, the Google OS is a poor alternative to the iPhone, lacking integration with iTunes or an alternative media-synchronization program of it's own.

There are numerous feature improvements in the OS, which will reportedly be available for Droid owners soon.

But, it's too early to know if Google's second update to the Android 2 OS fixes the numerous bugs that unfortunately accompanied the Droid phone to market.
