Great Lineup for ATP Year-End Finals
To appreciate just how competitive the top of men's professional tennis is, look at the round-robin groupings for the year-end ATP tournament, with the ponderous title of: Barlcays ATP World Tour Finals, in London, Nov. 22-30.
World number one Roger Federer is in a group with Andy Murray, who has beaten Roger six times, Juan Martin Del Potro, who beat him for the first time to win the U.S. Open, and Fernando Verdasco.
World number two Rafael Nadal, who has a long-shot chance of re-passing Federer for the top year-end ranking if he does well in this final event, is grouped with three players that all beat him the last time they played: Novak Djokovic, who excels on fast, indoor courts and is the defending champion for this event and beat Nadal in the semi's on his way to winning the Paris Open last week, Nikolay Davydenko, who took Nadal apart in Shanghai only weeks ago, and Robin Soderling, the big-hitting Swede that upset Nadal to end his run at the French Open.
