In memoriam: Ed Foster

Sadly, Ed Foster, a computer industry journalist for over two decades passed away this July.

It seems like centuries ago, not merely decades past, when I originally hired Ed. While I like many in this nomadic industry have moved repeatedly, Ed was a rock of stability, spending the last 15 years focused on consumer advocacy, including his InfoWorld column The Gripe Line.

Ed not only contributed to the computer publishing industry through his writings, but through training dozens of subsequent writers and editors. Ed's passing also marks an era. Ed came from a period when print publications were fatter and, frankly, much better, the latter in large part because of people like Ed.

In lieu of flowers, Ed's family asks that donations be made to the Electronic Frontier Foundation in his name. Services were held last Saturday in Palo Alto, Ca.
